Pet Mahjong: Cat Dog Duo is three complete mahjong games in a single offline app — Hong Kong Cantonese, American and Southern Vietnamese — each with its own rules engine and its own AI. Formerly Cat Mahjong 3in1: the cats are still here, and now dog and mixed cat + dog themes join the table. Built by a solo developer in Hong Kong so his mother could practise at her own pace. Nothing is timed, nothing needs a connection, and nothing asks for money twice.

🇭🇰 Hong Kong Mahjong

19 authentic faan patterns, optional three-faan minimum. Pong, kong, chow, self-draw, robbing the kong. Choose the discard payout rule (full or split).

🇺🇸 American Mahjong

Full Charleston, jokers and exposures, plus a built-in card editor — enter the hands you actually play, set values, mark them concealed or shiftable, save several cards and switch between them.

🇻🇳 Vietnamese Mahjong

The Southern 160-tile set with 8 wild jokers, flowers, seasons, kings and queens. Phán / Mủn scoring, with the Vietnamese calls (phổng, khàng, ăn, tự mò, ù) kept intact.

Built by one developer in Hong Kong — originally so his mother, who never learned to play online, could practise at her own pace. That's why there are no timers, no disconnects and nobody rushing you.

Why this, why now

Mahjong is having a moment in the US. Yelp named it a 2026 lifestyle trend, and NPR, Axios and Fortune have all covered its resurgence — among Gen Z players as much as lifelong ones.
Every serious American mahjong app is a subscription. The category standard is roughly US$6 a month or US$60 a year. Pet Mahjong is a single purchase, forever.
Southern Vietnamese mahjong has essentially no digital home. The 160-tile set with its eight wild jokers, kings, queens, flowers and seasons is, as far as we can find, not implemented in any other dedicated mobile app, in any language.
Nothing here is timed. That is an accessibility decision, not a missing feature. Players with slower motor or cognitive response are never penalised for thinking.

Notes for reviewers

All hand sets shipped in the app are original work. The default American set is called the “Classic Practice Card” and is not derived from any organisation’s published card.
Card content is fully user-configurable — players enter whichever hands they play.
There is no real money and no gambling. In-game points have no value and cannot be bought.
